It’s hard to believe but as the calendar has flipped to October, we are officially at the halfway point of the 2022 regular season as we enter week six. Before you know it, we’ll be into November and we’ll be talking about the playoffs and eventually state champions will be crowned. This week, we have several midseason spotlights on the site. From top players, breakout players, surprise teams, etc. And in this post, we put a spotlight on the players that were somewhat unknown just a few months ago, but now they are some of the best players in the state for their respective class.
CLASS 6A-1
Our first breakout star is one name that we’re familiar with after watching him play 7v7 with Sooner 7 in the last two offseasons. Enid senior wide receiver Tykie Andrews Tykie Andrews 6’0″ | WR Enid | 2023 State OK has been on our radar for 18 months or so after watching him in the offseason at the wide receiver position. However, this year, Andrews is putting everything together and performing on Fridays as well and has put up some monster numbers against good competition. Andrews has over 700 yards receiving and nine touchdowns so far this year and is on pace for one of the better statistical seasons in the state from a wide receiver. Enid has a few breakout stars on their offense but we’re giving the nod to Andrews for his consistency and productivity against some of the state’s better teams. He’s made games with over 150 yards and two touchdowns look normal. He’s done it in four of their five games so far this season.
CLASS 6A-2
Talking to people in the know for the last nine months, there was plenty of excitement around the potential of Deer Creek sophomore quarterback Grady Adamson Grady Adamson 6’1″ | 215 lbs | QB Deer Creek | 2025 State OK . And the young quarterback wasn’t stepping into a particularly easy situation. He was replacing an experienced starter in Brett Pense that led the Antlers all the way to the state championship game. But so far after five games, the Antlers might be even better in 2022. Adamson has the Antlers unbeaten with an impressive win over Mustang in week two. He’s put up strong numbers throwing the ball as the Antlers have unleashed him and this Deer Creek offense. He’s thrown for nearly 1,500 yards and 13 touchdowns while completing nearly 70 percent of his passes. Adamson is definitely going to be yet another name to know in a 2025 quarterback class that is already incredibly talented. We’ll get a good look at him this week as he faces a strong Choctaw team on the road.

CLASS 5A
We’ve written about Collinsville and the emergence of their senior quarterback Kaden Rush Kaden Rush 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Collinsville | 2023 State OK a few times already this season because of his performances and leading Collinsville to a 5-0 record. And we completely got this one wrong back in July and August. We thought the Cardinals would take a step back after losing quarterback Andrew Carney. Turns out, the Cardinals have plugged in a quarterback who’s just as dynamic when it comes to throwing and running the football. Rush has thrown for over 1,100 yards and 17 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions. And he’s added nearly 500 yards on the ground. Two years ago, Carney had a season where he threw for 1,500 and ran for 1,500 yards. We mentioned how rare of an accomplishment that was. Collinsville might have found another player that could reach that later on this season. If the Cardinals make another run in November, not only could Rush potentially reach those numbers, but Collinsville could defend their title.

We got a chance to see Tuttle sophomore running back Brady Mcadoo Brady Mcadoo 6’0″ | 180 lbs | RB Tuttle | 2025 State OK at one of our camps earlier this year. We also watched his film from his limited action on the varsity level last year as a freshman. There’s a lot to like there. And so far this season, he’s been arguably the most explosive part of Tuttle’s offense. McAdoo is a very versatile athlete that is just as likely to break off a long run, take a short pass the distance or take a kick back for a touchdown. He’s done a little bit of everything so far this season for the Tigers, who are very determined to make it back to Edmond and avenge last year’s state championship loss. McAdoo is the latest 2025 prospect that came into the season expecting to have a solid sophomore campaign and so far, he’s backing it up. We’re looking forward to seeing more of him down the stretch and seeing how far the Tigers end up going when November and December roll around.

CLASS 3A
From talking with Heritage Hall coaches throughout the offseason, they expected Charger junior quarterback Andy Bass Andy Bass 6’0″ | 195 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK to be on this list. Bass had to sit out the 2021 football season but participated in track and showcased legit track speed. Add that to his abilities to throw the ball and the Chargers were excited to unleash their dual-threat quarterback on the rest of Class 3A this season. Now that senior running back River Faulkner River Faulkner 5’11” | 205 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK has rejoined Bass in the Charger backfield, Heritage Hall has the chance to play their best football down the stretch with a legitimate 1-2 punch, capable of leading the Chargers to the state championship. Bass has thrown for over 1,000 yards and has multiple 100-yard rushing games to go along with it. We listened to all the talk about Bass before the season but then we saw it with our own eyes in the season opener against Millwood and he’s continued to back it up over the last month.

Vinita was listed as one of the midseason surprise teams in a post earlier this week on Prep Redzone Oklahoma. The Hornets were definitely under the radar coming into this season but it didn’t take long to get everyone’s attention. Plus, they’ve been perfect, with a 5-0 record. And leading the way has been senior quarterback Paul Glasscock Paul Glasscock 6’1″ | QB Vinita | 2023 State OK . The senior QB has thrown for nearly 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns with only 1 interception. Glasscock is taking care of the football and he’s wildly efficient as well. He’s completing over 70 percent of his passes. But arguably Vinita’s toughest district tests are still ahead of them. They’ll face Rejoice Christian with their star quarterback Chance Wilson Chance Wilson 6’3″ | 185 lbs | QB Rejoice Christian | 2023 State OK next week. There’s a chance that the Rejoice game turns into an absolute shootout with these two senior quarterbacks dueling. Following the clash with Rejoice, they also still have Claremore Sequoyah, who’s been another surprise team.
CLASS A
Wynnewood sophomore Caden Knighten Caden Knighten 6’1″ | 180 lbs | RB Wynnewood | 2025 State OK was already considered one of the best prospects in the state’s 2025 class. But this fall, in just five games, Knighten is becoming one of the best overall players in the state as he’s put up some of the best rushing numbers in the state. Knighten has run for more than 1,100 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has multiple games where he’s ran for more than 300 yards. And in every single game, he’s run for at least two touchdowns. In our Midseason MVP post, Hominy quarterback Jaxon Woods Jaxon Woods 6’0″ | ATH Hominy | 2024 State OK was the Class A MVP. And we mentioned in that post how we’ve seen individual players carry their teams to state championships in Class A over the past decade. Perhaps Woods isn’t the only player capable of doing so. Maybe the young sophomore in southern Oklahoma has the potential to not only get Wynnewood back to the playoffs, but contend for the gold ball.
