To start off our Monday, we flashback to Friday night under the lights at Irish Country Stadium in Maple Lake and take a look at the now 5-0 and the #1 team in 1A, the BOLD Warriors, to see who was named our Big Dogs of the Game for the Warriors. The Warriors had some players that were out on Friday night but still painted a solid picture as the #1 team in 1A could show off some depth, especially with their booming offensive unit. Take a look at the Big Dogs from BOLD below!
Ryan King Ryan King 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR BOLD | 2023 MN , TE/DE, BOLD (2023)
- Ryan was one of the Warriors’ biggest targets (6’2 185) on the field to get the ball to. His ability to use that increased size with his route-running was one of the two biggest advantages against Maple Lake in the passing game.
- His hoops background shows off a sizeable vertical that can be used to get sizeable bits of separation from the defender. Last Friday night, he used that athleticism to his full advantage against Maple Lake, especially on deeper routes.
- Ryan also does a solid job with his durability, as he was a stout fighter to get extra yards for the Warriors last Friday night as most of the defense, he went up against showed some athleticism but couldn’t match Ryan’s size with the Warriors seldomly did air it out with the QB1 out in sophomore Jack Gross Jack Gross 6'3" | QB BOLD | 2025 State MN .
- He also showed off one of the best punts I saw thus far this season inside the 20, as he used his long leg with good hang time and an athletic roll to pin the Maple Lake Irish deep in their own territory in the second half of the game from Irish County Stadium.
Austin Kiecker, RB/LB, BOLD (2024)
- Austin was seen as BOLD’s later down running back, but one that showed a good burst with his speed running thru the lanes he was given by his offensive line as I loved watching him get a fourth down conversion all that speed he possessed in his 5’7 155-pound frame.
- Austin also showed off good vision from the limited reps I caught in person and had great instincts as a ground-and-pound inside runner that I thought played bigger than his measurables might show off.
- Hopefully, we can get some tape from Austin’s season here soon, as an RB prospect that shoots to me to be way under the radar from what his skillsets showed me last Friday night in Maple Lake.
Tate Sheehan, LB/OL, BOLD (2024)
- Tate was one of my favorite linebackers I watched on Friday night in Maple Lake. He consistently made key stops with a plethora of physicality early on first contact.
- This remained the case for the duration of the game, as Tate also showed off as a blue-collar linebacker in his 5’10 185 pound frame as he was a pounder who used his good vision instinct to plow into the gaps of the Maple Lake rushing attack.
- No tape thus far yet for Tate, but I would love to see more of it as we get deeper into the fall 2022 season for the #1 ranked team in BOLD in 1A. Well-put-together junior that has some upside defensively to be seen.
Stevie Mcmath Stevie Mcmath 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR BOLD | 2023 MN , WR/DB, BOLD (2023)
- Stevie continued his stock rising the last couple of months with prospect camps and the 2022 season by showing off some great balance within his route-running ability to take the top of the Maple Lake secondary and proceed with great use of his hands to pull in some tough catches last Friday night in Maple Lake.
- Stevie showed off a quick get-off to get ahead of the Maple Lake secondary and put together the speed I saw this summer at the SMSU prospect camp. That get-off seems to have gotten faster and faster than when I watched him over the summer.
- Stevie also showed how versatile he is within an RPO offense, as his ability to use his agile running ability between the tackles showed plenty of finesse to be seen from college coaches at the next level.
- I would say Stevie is one of the most slept-on prospects from SW Minnesota without an offer yet, as he continues rising to the occasion every chance I have gotten a chance to watch him over the last 3-4 months. I wouldn’t want to wait around on offering this kid if I was in an NSIC or MIAC program in outstate Minnesota.
Kaden Fischer Kaden Fischer 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB BOLD | 2025 MN , RB/LB, BOLD (2025)
- Kaden logged four rushing touchdowns in his outing against Maple Lake and brought out a ton of durability within his runs with his developed 5’8 190-pound frame.
- He showed off some great downhill running ability that shows a faster game speed than the tape might show off, as a young RB prospect who will fight for every yard he can get.
- Kaden gets a lot of agility kicking in on his first cuts, which set a solid tone for his ability to get out of a traffic jam and use that downhill speed to progress up the field. He also shows off a well-built lowering of the shoulder, as I said on Friday night, I sure wouldn’t want to be the receiving end of this kid’s durability even as just a sophomore.
- I would certainly give Kaden my Big Dog of the Game award overall for his stellar play on Friday night against the Maple Lake Irish, as this young man has a ton of growth left to be seen within his next 2.5 seasons with the Warriors, and this kid excites me to a prospect that should be playing at the next level as long as his development keeps churning upwards over the next several years.
