At the beginning of the game, Hightower used its fast-paced offense to get on the board early and scored two touchdowns in the 1st quarter. However, C.E Kings in the 2nd quarter started picking up the pace on both offense and defense they were able to score three touchdowns in the 2nd quarter alone. In the 2nd half, Hightower was able to fight back a bit, but C.E Kings was on a roll and took a big lead. The final score of the game was 38-21 with C.E Kings moving on to round 4 to play against The Katy Tigers. With this being their last game this season I would like to speak about the standouts from The Hightower Hurricanes on both offense and defense.
Hightower Offense
#6 Jeremy Payne Jeremy Payne 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Fort Bend Hightower | 2024 State TX RB Jr 5’11 175 lbs
Jeremy Payne Jeremy Payne 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Fort Bend Hightower | 2024 State TX is a running back with a lot of speed and power. Numerous times Jeremy dashed through C.E Kings’ defense with breakneck speed for a big run. Jeremy was killing it early on it almost felt like he was going to score every time he touched the ball. One of Jeremy’s touchdown runs was unfortunately called back due to a blindside block foul on the offense. Jeremy in his junior year has become nationally ranked and is one of the top players in Houston. When I wrote about Jeremy last year he had three college offers now he has 10+ from; Southern Methodist University, Texas Southern University, Indiana University, University of Oklahoma, Texas Christian University, etc. Jeremy’s stats this game were 2 touchdown runs.
#1 Joseph Stewart Jr QB So 5’10 175 lbs
Joseph Stewart as a quarterback has a pretty good arm but is a mobile quarterback with commendable footwork. Joseph under pressure or in a pinch is not afraid to run the ball which would result in a 1st down. Joseph has steadily improved throughout the season especially being new to the varsity this season. During week 2 I predicted that Joseph would make the Hightower Hurricanes offense his own and has guided them into round 3 of the playoffs. In the future, if Joseph can improve his accuracy and overall game sense The Hightower Hurricanes will go much further in next season’s playoffs.
#3 Khaleb Davis WR, RB Sr 5’7 170 lbs
Khaleb Davis is a fast, strong, and efficient runner. Khaleb being one of the main ball holders besides Jeremy Payne Jeremy Payne 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Fort Bend Hightower | 2024 State TX is an essential player especially when he ran wide on a jet sweep. Khaleb had a massive run for about 50 yards that put Hightower in a position to score in the next two plays. Unfortunately, this is Khaleb’s last high school football game, but he currently has one college offer from Alabama State University so I hope to see him continue to play at the collegiate level.
Hightower Defense
#7 Chisom Onwuzurigbo Chisom Onwuzurigbo 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Hightower HighSchool | 2023 TX CB Sr 6’1 175 lbs
Chisom Onwuzurigbo Chisom Onwuzurigbo 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Hightower HighSchool | 2023 TX is a phenomenal defensive cornerback. Chisom was providing great coverage not allowing too much separation between him and his man. Chisom also has great game sense while covering his man he can still read the quarterback and see the trajectory of his passes. Chisom used this to his advantage by getting an interception for a 32-yard touchdown. Chisom was the backbone of Hightower’s defense it is unfortunate that this will be his last high school football game. I hope to see Chisom continue to play at the collegiate level as well.
