Here are the top performers from those games as Iona Prep, St. Anthony’s, Archbishop Stepinac, and Chaminade all move to the semifinals this weekend.
With over 180 all purpose yards and 3TDs Colin O’Garro Colin O’Garro 6’1″ | 205 lbs | RB Iona Prep | 2023 State NY was incredible in Iona Prep’s first round playoff matchup against Cardinal Hayes. What is so impressive about O’Garro’s night was that he was able to do it on only 9 touches. O’Garro just picked up his first offers from Colgate and Bucknell and after this performance could start to see more offers come in.
Dante Torres Dante Torres 6’3″ | 190 lbs | QB St. Anthony’s | 2023 State NY had an incredible game in a thrilling victory over Christ The King. The Senior threw for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns and added two more touchdowns on the ground. Torres was locked in all game completing 19 of 20 passes for an average of 19 yards per attempt. Not only is Torres playing with ridiculous efficiency but he is doing so while pushing the ball vertically down the field at an elite level. Torres was also able to do this without relying on his top two receivers; Korey Duff Jr and Ian Strong Ian Strong 6’4″ | 180 lbs | ATH St. Anthony’s | 2023 State NY who each had only one reception.
Highlights
Tim Longo was the most reliable target all day for Dante Torres Dante Torres 6’3″ | 190 lbs | QB St. Anthony’s | 2023 State NY . Longo had a team high 8 receptions and 97 yards adding two scores. In such a high powered offense loaded with national recruits Longo has become the reliable guy in the slot who can really make plays for Torres. Longo’s ability to get open is impressive and while he may not be known for huge plays his skillset is necessary to compliment the skillset of Dante Torres Dante Torres 6’3″ | 190 lbs | QB St. Anthony’s | 2023 State NY .
Highlights
JT Krivinskas JT Krivinskas 6’1″ | 205 lbs | LB Archbishop Stepinac | 2023 State NY with yet another elite performance. The leader of the Archbishop Stepinac defense; arguably the best in the state was incredible in a shutout win against Monsignor Farrell. 1o Tackles and 2 TFL in addition to stopping Monsignor Farrells patenting running attack is why Krivinskas was a top performer. The linebacker is consistently all over the field making plays and was one of the main reasons for the shutout. Krivinskas has one offer from Lock Haven but if he continues to perform like this through the playoffs he should be given some more oppurtunities.
Highlights
Another huge performer from the Archbishop Stepinac defense Wayne Coleman Wayne Coleman 6’2″ | 275 lbs | DL Archbishop Stepinac | 2023 State NY was integral in stopping the Monsignor Farrell run game. Raking up 7 tackles from the DT position is impressive. Coleman also made his presence known in the backfield with a sack and a couple hurries of Cristian Pinto Cristian Pinto 6’0″ | 180 lbs | QB Monsignor Farrell | 2024 State NY . Coleman has an offer from Central Connecticut State but has the athleticism that would garner more attention from a higher level. Don’t be surprised if more schools look his way.
Isaiah Darby Isaiah Darby 6’2″ | 215 lbs | DL Archbishop Stepniac | 2023 State NY had a remarkably similar performance to Coleman and needs to be mentioned when talking about the incredible performance by Archbishop Stepinac’s defense. 7 tackles, 1 sack, 2 hurries show how Darby was all over the field in the dominant victory.
Highlights
Ajani Sheppard Ajani Sheppard 6’3″ | 225 lbs | QB Iona Prep | 2023 State NY is so good that his regular performance is player of the week worthy. 244 yards passing and 2 touchdowns in addition to another 33 and 1 TD on the ground to lead a dominant win over Cardinal Hayes. Sheppard is pretty much always the best athlete on the field and it shows in his performances. The best part of this game? No turnovers and Sheppard spread the ball around to six different receivers. A huge matchup against a really good Archbishop Stepinac defense next week should bring out the best in Sheppard.
Highlights
Benjamin Mann
Benjamin Mann
11 Tackles, 3 TFL, 2 Sacks against a really good Kellenberg offense is one of the best performances of this past weekend. Benjamin Mann was all over the field and helped the Chaminade defense hold the Kellenberg offense to their second lowest point total all season.
Mason Dietrich had a really solid outing against Kellenberg. Several solid blocks where he was able to reach the second level to help John Tully get runs of 5+ yards. Dietrich was also solid in pass protection as Chaminade was able to get the ball out quick and effectively for a majority of the game.
Highlights
Matthew Dieguez
Matthew Dieguez
142 yards through the air on 10 of 14 passing. Another 57 yards on the ground averaging 9.5 yards per carry and two touchdowns through the air; one of which was a game winning pass as time expired. The game winning throw was incredible as Dieguez was rolling to his right and made a throw from his own 25 in the middle of the hashes to the sideline near the endzone. If the throw was anything less than perfect there was a good chance Chaminade isn’t able to pull off the victory.
